EYFS – Y2
EYFS and Year 1 children have daily phonics lessons using Little Wandle SSP. They are taught how to use the GPCs they know in order to represent the sounds they hear. Children are taught how to use ‘best bet’ in order to choose the most likely graphemes to represent the sounds in words.
The discrete teaching of spelling begins in Year 2 (once Little Wandle has been completed). Children are taught further phoneme-grapheme correspondences, as well as spelling patterns and rules such as how to add prefixes and suffixes to words. We continue to use Little Wandle as our spelling programme for Year 2.

KS2
Daily discrete teaching of spelling continues into Key Stage 2 building on the foundations of Little Wandle. We use Magic Spell as our KS2 spelling programme which includes the teaching of etymology and morphology.
